44th Annual Mermaid Parade at Coney Island

Since 1983, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors from around the world have headed to the Coney Island shore for Coney Island USA’s annual Mermaid Parade.

Sea creatures and mer-folk, Fogo Azul and other marching bands, dancing groups and push-pull floats all proceed eastward on Surf Avenue from W 21st to W 10th. Click here then scroll down for the official route map.

After the parade, usually around 4pm, there’s a procession led from the Judge’s stands at Surf Avenue between W 15th St and W 16th St, through Maimonides Park Parking lot, to the beach. Marchers and spectators are welcome to join the procession from the end of the parade route under the Parachute Jump. On the beach, the official beach ceremony will take place, and the ocean will be opened for the summer swimming season.

There is an ADA viewing area on Surf Avenue between W 12th St and W 10th St.
